New Cognitive Media Theory
Here I list some topics and ideas that I am working on and that are driven by technologies, objects, artworks, buildings, cities, etc. Empirically engaged philosophy of mind, media, and art — as I understand it — should also address how such concrete cultural artifacts engage us and why we value some of them so dearly.
I list some underlying theories I am developing further, below. Those aim at a more systematic embedding and criticize adjacent theories in the field. With a focus on the artifactual, affective, and aesthetic nature of our mind, I mainly discuss theories of 4E (embodied, embedded, extended, and enactive) cognition and predictive processing but also work on emotions and the philosophy of art. For an overview and genealogy of my theories see the text below on this page.
The theory I have mostly developed over the past years, is a theory of the mediated nature of the mind. On this page, I will provide a summary and updated version of this, as soon as I find a bit of time. So far this site is more a placeholder.
