Research Platform Neurourbanism (RPN)
The RPN is funded by a grant on Exploring and Designing Density. Neurourbanism as Novel Approach in Global Mental Health by the Berlin University Alliance/DFG.
I am the Speaker and a Principal Investigator at HU for this project. It is a joint project of HU with Charité University Medicine and TU Berlin and the aim is to establish a Research Platform Neurorurbanism and we use RPN as our shorthand for this project. I am the leader of the theoretical work package and head of an EMA project: "Your Emotional City" (with Futurium/Charité). I also collaborate on experiments of the Mobile Brain Imaging Lab and with urban planners at TU Berlin.

Art and Research on Individual and Societies (ART*IS)
We aim to integrate state-of-the-art empirical approaches from psychology, neuroscience, and phenomenology to conduct a series of investigations that identify specific types of experiences with art, to connect these to changes at individual (neurocognitive, emotional, health) and societal (prosocial and political attitudes) levels. HU is involved in capturing these experiences in leading museums and urban centers across Europe and everyday life. We also contribute to the contextualization of the empirical data using theoretical approaches from philosophy as well as political science and art criticism. We aim to combine this empirical and theoretical focus with a series of interventions, workshops, and experimentations co-created with art schools, urban planners, artists, and galleries.
ART*IS is a EU Horizon 2020-funded project under the call “Societal Transformations and the Arts.” We represent a first-of-its-kind consortium of research institutions in the psychology, neuroscience , art history, philosophy, art education, and art and cultural Policy (Aarhus University, Kunsthochschule Weissensee, Berlin; Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL); University of Amsterdam; University of Arts in Belgrade; University of Oxford, Ruskin School of Arts; University of Vienna). We argue that to make better cultural policy it is necessary to systematically combine empirical and theoretical research with the perspectives of artists, art educators, and other art stakeholders.
